Agatha Yen Pham: A Life of Creative Giving (1998–2026)
Chapter 1: Early Artistry & Knitting (1998–2007)
Yen’s journey began in 1998, when she first discovered the joy of creating art and writing poetry. From the very start, her work was infused with heart and intention. By 1999, she had already earned recognition with Best of Show in Long Beach, Mississippi, and first-place in book cover contests.
In 2000, she won a Christmas card contest and saw her first Vietnamese poem published, a small but meaningful affirmation of her voice. Over the next few years, her artistry expanded into graphic design, and by 2001–2002, she had sold her first artwork.
From 2002 to 2007, Yen’s creativity took on a caring, tactile dimension: she knitted over 100 scarves, hats, sweaters, and baby blankets, many of which were given as gifts or donated. In 2007, her artistic vision came full circle with a design chosen for her uncle’s poetry book cover. These early years laid the foundation for a life in which creativity and generosity were inseparable.
Chapter 2: Art, Poetry & Music (2008–2015)
From 2008 to 2013, Yen contributed her art and poetry to the online community at www.dunglac.org, sharing her vision with a wider audience. Her work gained further recognition in 2010, when her poetry contest entry Sen Giua Lay was published alongside a series of her artworks.
By 2011, she had entered the international stage: her poems appeared in Dublin magazine and Mount Carmel, marking her first English poem published. Her art adorned 45 covers of Ky Uc va Uoc Mo, cementing her reputation as a multifaceted creator.
In 2012, her poem A Boundless Joy was published, and in 2014, her artwork graced the cover of the Vietnamese Martyrs poetry collection in Germany. The following year, Yen’s poems were included in Religious Poems Vol.5, and her first CD, Trai Tim Goi Moi, was released. During 2011–2015, multiple poems and artworks were published in Trai Tim Duc Me, demonstrating her consistent impact on the literary and artistic community.
Chapter 3: Folding Stars & Paper for Water (2016–2019)
Yen’s creative journey took a philanthropic turn between 2016–2019, when she folded Kusudama stars for charity. In 2018, a water well in Liberia was named in her honor: Paper for Water with Sister Agatha Yen Pham. This recognition was a moment of deep gratitude, as she realized she was being used as an instrument of God’s love.
By 2019, her creativity reached her local church in a beautiful way. She decorated the entire Christmas tree with 225 sheets of paper, 7 large stars in the center, 25 stars on the sides, and 30 quilling snowflakes — the first time the church had ever experienced such a festive and artful display.
Chapter 4: Poetry, Art, Music & Giving (2020–2026)
In 2020, Yen’s art was used for 200 fundraising cards by Paper for Water, helping supporters give $120 annually through a set of three cards.
2021 brought challenges, but also blessings: Yen and her community survived COVID-19, and 8 of her poems were selected for Báo Trái Tim Đức Mẹ, highlighting her voice even in difficult times.
In 2022, she received over 60 canvases, origami, and a kusudama book from Rev. Joseph Tran in Minnesota. When his church experienced a fire, Yen donated 12 artworks to aid fundraising. That same year, 2 of her poems were published in Báo Trái Tim Đức Mẹ.
By 2023, she published 3 poems — two in Báo Trái Tim Đức Mẹ and one in Mount Carmel Magazine (Oct–Dec, Vol. 71/4). She donated $300 and 13 artworks to Rev. Joseph Tran, continuing her pattern of creative giving.
2024 saw 3 more poems published in Mount Carmel Magazine, and in 2025, she donated 2 boxes of origami to Paper for Water, linking her art to charitable action once again.
Finally, 2026 emerged as a milestone year: 5 poems were selected for Fellowship and Fairy Dust, 2 poems were chosen by Mount Carmel Magazine, and she accomplished 120 songs in Suno.
Through these years, Yen’s life has been a testament to the power of creativity and generosity. Each poem, song, or piece of art is more than a personal achievement — it is a gift shared with communities, both near and far. From her first creations in 1998 to her extraordinary accomplishments in 2026, her story reflects a life devoted to beauty, faith, and giving.
